Job description

At SMS Equipment, our Sales Representatives are responsible for managing sales of new equipment within the domestic sales function. They contact assigned customer accounts or prospects to sell company products and services within a designated geographic territory or by customer type. The role focuses on personal sales targets, new business development, maintaining customer relationships, and troubleshooting in key markets. This position is located in Etobicoke, ON.

This position offers a base salary plus commissions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing sales of new equipment.
  • Collaborating with the Operations Manager to set quotas, implement sales action plans, and monitor economic trends and new product development.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual sales forecasts, budgets, and prospect reports.
  • Preparing sales presentations, contracts, and proposals (e.g., proactive equipment replacement proposals).

Establishing and building strong customer relationships to enable ongoing representation, reinforced by sales programs and communication with other company divisions.

  • Initiating direct sales activities with existing customers and new prospects within assigned territories.
  • Acting as the customer representative for SMS and as the focal point for communication between the customer and SMS.
  • Gaining knowledge of all aspects of customer relationships, including services, sales, pricing, and goodwill.
  • Assisting customers in implementing equipment changes for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Providing feedback on customer problems to develop solutions to recurrent issues.
  • Developing regular call schedules and maintaining close relationships with customer staff at all levels.
  • Preparing informative call reports using CRM.

Meeting personal sales targets as established.

  • Focusing on stable accounts within identified markets or geography.
  • Utilizing company resources to generate leads and achieve sales goals.

Participating in special projects as assigned.

  • Engaging in major promotions, new product launches, and marketing initiatives.
  • Building customer networks through involvement in professional associations (e.g., CIM, APEGGA).

Qualifications:

  • Typically, an undergraduate degree in engineering, marketing, or a related field is required. The role requires understanding theoretical principles and their application to responsibilities.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the mining or industrial industry is preferred, with a strong sales/engineering orientation.
  • Ambitious, proactive, and eager to acquire new technology and best practices.
  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, good judgment, initiative, dependability, and creativity are essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
