Job description

At SMS Equipment, our Sales Representatives are responsible for managing sales of new equipment within the domestic sales function. They contact assigned customer accounts or prospects to sell company products and services within a designated geographic territory or by customer type. The role focuses on personal sales targets, new business development, maintaining customer relationships, and troubleshooting in key markets. This position is based in Etobicoke, ON.

This position offers a base salary plus commissions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing sales of new equipment.
  • Collaborating with the Operations Manager to set quotas, implement sales action plans, and monitor economic trends and new product development.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual sales forecasts, budgets, and prospect reports.
  • Preparing sales presentations, contracts, and proposals (e.g., proactive equipment replacement proposals).

Establishing and building strong customer relationships to enable ongoing representation through sales programs and communication with other company divisions.

  • Initiating direct sales activities with existing customers and new prospects within assigned territories.
  • Acting as the customer representative for SMS and as the main communication point between the customer and SMS.
  • Gaining knowledge of all aspects of customer relationships, including services, sales, pricing, and goodwill.
  • Assisting customers with equipment changes to improve operations and reduce costs.
  • Providing feedback on customer problems to SMS to facilitate solutions to recurrent issues.
  • Developing regular call schedules and maintaining close relationships with customer staff at all levels.
  • Preparing informative call reports using CRM.

Meeting personal sales targets as established.

  • Focusing on stable accounts within identified markets or geographies.
  • Using company resources to generate leads and achieve sales goals.

Participating in special projects and initiatives.

  • Engaging in major promotions, new product launches, and marketing initiatives.
  • Building customer networks through involvement with professional associations (e.g., CIM, APEGGA).

Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to an undergraduate degree in engineering, marketing, or a related field, with a sound understanding of theoretical principles.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the mining or industrial industry preferred.
  • Ambitious, proactive, and committed to continuous learning and performance improvement.
  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
  • Excellent decision-making, judgment, initiative, and reliability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset, especially for documentation or French-speaking customers.
