Job summary

The County of Brant is seeking Equipment Operators for the Operations Department, Roads Division. These unionized positions require technical and mechanical skills, a valid Class D license, and the ability to operate various types of equipment. Successful candidates will perform maintenance and repair tasks in a fast-paced team environment. The hourly wage ranges from $25.91 during probation to $32.12 for full-time work, and applications are due by June 30, 2025.

Qualifications

  • Experience with operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge related to Public Works.

Responsibilities

  • Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Perform winter control operations related to Public Works activities.
  • Execute other relevant duties as assigned.

Job description

Equipment Operator – Operations Department, Roads Division (Unionized Position) – 2 Positions

Reports to: Road Superintendent

Location: Initial Placement – To be determined

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Secondary school education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good technical and mechanical skills
  • Valid Class D license with Z endorsement with an acceptable abstract
  • Ability to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment, including but not limited to standard transmission tandem dump truck, loader/backhoe, snowplow/sander, tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters, etc.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated safe work practices (in compliance with applicable legislation, i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, County of Brant Health & Safety Policies & Procedures, etc.)
Assets:
  • Experience with and demonstrated ability to operate road grader
  • Knowledge related to Public Works
Duties:
  • Operate a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment, power and hand tools to perform maintenance, repair, construction tasks and winter control operations as related to Public Works type activities
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Wage:
$25.91/hour – Probationary Rate
$32.12/hour – Full Time Rate

Hours of Work: 40 hours/week
