Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor – Solid Waste Collection, and the direction of the Leadhand, operates sanitation trucks and collects and loads garbage, refuse, and litter.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Operates sanitation trucks, picks up and loads garbage, refuse, and litter, returns containers, and places lids on same.
  2. Issues garbage notices to people who are not conforming to garbage by-law.
  3. Washes and cleans trucks.
  4. Operates construction and maintenance equipment within the classification.
  5. Operates other equipment when required.
  6. Checks and carries out minor servicing of equipment being operated.
  7. Reports equipment defects.
  8. Fills out time cards and marks in proper account distribution.
  9. Reports materials used to stores personnel.
  10. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

GENERAL: Must be proficient in operating trucks with a G.V.W. rating of 11,000 kgs and up. Must be reliable and able to understand, read, write, and speak English fluently. Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a ‘Z’ endorsement. Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation.

SPECIFIC: Must be physically capable of performing manual laboring duties and be tactful and courteous.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation.
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified).
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC).
