What will you do?
During the Summer months you will work as an Equipment Operator II in the Infrastructure Maintenance Section, Paving Operations Unit. Some key responsibilities include:
- Operate Cutter / Router for crack sealing
- During periods when equipment operator work is not required, will perform other duties which may include but are not limited to truck driving, litter control, general labour duties and other related duties as required operationally
- Ensure work will be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
- Perform other related duties as required
During the Winter months you will work as a Truck Driver III in the Infrastructure Operations Section, Infrastructure Field Operations Unit - Northwest District. Some key responsibilities include:
- Operate a tandem or single axle sand/plow while engaged in road sanding, snow removal and ice control
- Perform other duties which may include but are not limited to litter control, and general labour duties when plowing and sanding are not required
- Manual sidewalk cleaning, snow shoveling, and manual spreading of sand on icy areas
- Ensure work will be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in operating the equipment assigned, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Must have minimum 1 year of experience operating Cutter / Router
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of rotation & changing of the teeth pattern required
- Knowledge of requirement of the depth & width of the routing
- Considerable knowledge of methods, practices and rules of the safe operation of equipment assigned
- Ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely and in conformance with applicable laws and regulations
- Physical strength and agility to perform work of this class
- Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in operating and caring for equipment
- Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the season

Conditions of Employment:
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with Air Brake endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- This role works at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the summer season
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift is required
- Must be physically capable of performing duties assigned in the presence of various weather and environmental conditions such as dust and noise
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs independently

Hours of Work:
- Winter: average of 80 hours biweekly. Rotating 12 hour shifts to provide 24 hour / 7 days per week coverage is a requirement of the position during the winter season.
- Summer: 40 hours per week providing 24 hour / 7 day a week coverage
Salary Range:
- Equipment Operator II - $32.529 (Hourly), $67,920.55 (Annually)
- Truck Driver III - $32.036 (Hourly) , $66,891.17 (Annually)
