Job summary

The City of Thompson seeks an Equipment Operator I for a temporary role to support snow removal and equipment handling across municipal facilities.

Responsibilities include following instructions, inspecting and fueling equipment, directing helpers, and transporting crew and gear as needed. The role requires operating multiple machines and teamwork in varying shifts.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Valid Class 1 Manitoba Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement.
• Ability to operate listed equipment with emphasis on grader, excavator, semi-truck and hydrovac.
• Ability to receive, understand and apply written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with other employees.
• Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods.
• Availability for shift work if scheduling requires.

Additionally, the position involves directing and assisting helpers in street cleaning, sanding, steamer operations, and garbage disposal, as well as transporting personnel, materials, and equipment as required.

Qualifications & Skills

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Valid Class 1 Manitoba Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
• Ability to operate all equipment as per the job description, with specific emphasis on Motor Grader, Excavator, Semi-truck and Hydrovac.
• Ability to receive, understand and apply written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with other employees
• Ability to effectively work unsupervised for extended periods of time.
• Availability for shift work if scheduling requires.
