Job summary

The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking a Roads Operations worker for the Linear Infrastructure Services division. You will operate CGS equipment on construction and maintenance sites, supporting a foreperson and a small team across the department’s projects.

Qualifications include Grade XII education, ability to read manuals, a valid DZ license, and strong English communication. Shift work is required and the position is permanent with development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Able to operate CGS equipment and associated machinery.
• Excellent use of English, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Operate various units of CGS equipment on CGS Construction and Maintenance properties.
• Operate equipment such as Tandem Truck, Sweeper, Flusher, Municipal Tractor and attachments, Loader and more.
• Load and unload trucks; transport personnel, materials, and equipment as required.
• Oversee small work crew during routine duties and maintain safety practices.
• Follow CGS Safety Manual and provincial regulations; complete required reports.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: Yes - Shift work may be required

Rate of Pay: $32.20 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Main Function: Operate various units of CGS equipment on CGS Construction and Maintenance properties.

Characteristic: Under the supervision of a Foreperson.

Duties:

• 1. Operate various units of CGS equipment.
• 2. Operate equipment such as Tandem Truck, Sweeper, Flusher, Municipal Tractor and attachments, Loader, etc.
• 3. Load and unload truck by hand or mechanical devices.
• 4. Transport personnel, materials, supplies, equipment and refuse.
• 5. Oversee small work crew in the performance of routine duties.
• 6. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
• 7. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

• Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.

Experience:

• No sectional experience necessary.
• Proven ability to operate equipment such as Tandem Truck, Sweeper, Flusher, Municipal Tractor and attachments, Loader, etc.

Other Requirements:

• Shift work is required.
• Proven ability to operate various units of CGS equipment.
• Prepare work reports when required.
• Must be able to read and follow manufacturers Routine Maintenance Instructions.
• Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals.
• Must have some mechanical knowledge to avoid damage to the equipment.
• Must be able to operate and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
• Must be able to operate all equipment attachments.
• Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
• Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
• May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class "DZ" driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $30.59 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
