Job summary

Altec is seeking an experienced equipment mechanic to join our team. The role focuses on repairing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components across a wide range of equipment, while ensuring safety and quality in all tasks.

Candidates should have a strong mechanical background, the ability to read schematics, and excellent communication skills in English and French. Overtime opportunities and a supportive benefits package are available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Fluent in English and French.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to move tools/equipment up to 75 pounds; dexterity required.
  • Ability to drive motor vehicles and work overtime as needed.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to safety in all tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Replace electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components.
  • Use manuals and technical resources to troubleshoot and identify parts.
  • Perform Unit Condition Inspections and prepare reports.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
  • Follow Altec safety practices and procedures in all tasks.
  • Notify supervisors of any situations affecting customer relations.
  • Provide accurate information on required documents.
  • Demonstrate Altec Company Values.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full Time, potential for overtime

Pay: $35-$45 per hour depending on skills and experience

This position is eligible for a $1500 sign on bonus payable after 90 days

The Ideal Background:
  • Experience with aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, cranes; or construction, mining, farm equipment such as excavators, skid steers, dozers or tractors; aircraft and aerospace or ground support equipment (AGE/GSE) or similar
  • Previous mechanic and/or equipment service experience
  • Education in mechanics, electrical or hydraulic systems
The Job:
  • Perform replacement of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components
  • Utilize all technical support resources (such as operator, parts, and maintenance manuals, HowFactory, etc.) in troubleshooting, determining procedures, and identifying parts needed for repair
  • Perform Unit Condition Inspections and Reports
  • Maintain work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner
  • Perform all tasks in a manner fully consistent with Altec Safety practices and procedures
  • Advise supervisors of situations that may impact a customer relationship
  • Provide accurate and sufficient information on all required documents
  • Demonstrate Altec Company Values
  • All other duties as assigned
The Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, provincially-approved High School Equivalency, or GED
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Physical effort to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
  • A high level of dexterity
  • As needed, provide basic tools per the Altec tool policy
  • Drive motor vehicles
  • Develop basic computer skills with Microsoft office
  • Ability to support customer by working overtime
  • Advocate safety in everything we do
