What is the role?
  • Work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and other departments to align equipment strategy with overall business objectives.
  • Develop and implement large, long-term partnerships, alliances, and contracts, including developing business relationships, defining and estimating work and required investments/resources, and assisting with negotiations.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on equipment utilization, performance, and maintenance status to senior management.
  • Continuously assess and recommend improvements in equipment practices, workflows, and operational processes.
  • Provide leadership, general management, and strategic focus for Western Canada.
  • Establish and operate within planned budgets.
  • Develop and plan yearly maintenance programs to minimize costs.
  • Ensure proper equipment usage, scheduling, and deployment across all active projects.
  • Establish a yearly Capex plan.
  • Develop and manage an efficient equipment inventory system for accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Stay current with new equipment management philosophies and trends.
  • Oversee a proactive maintenance program to ensure all equipment is properly serviced and maintained, minimizing downtime.
  • Define and implement process improvements and cost efficiencies.
  • Implement and monitor predictive maintenance strategies to identify potential issues before costly failures.
  • Track and report on equipment costs, including fuel, repairs, maintenance, and rental expenses.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies through improved equipment usage and management practices.
  • Manage the inventory of parts, minimizing where possible.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and make recommendations for upgrades or new acquisitions based on project needs and cost-effectiveness.
  • Track and recommend the most cost-effective actions for lease and rental equipment.

We are seeking a dynamic Equipment Director to join our team at VINCI Construction, supporting our Western Canada Operations, including Carmacks Enterprises in Nisku, BA Blacktop in Vancouver, and HJR Asphalt in Saskatoon. This pivotal role will oversee the equipment management and operations for leading companies in the road construction and maintenance industry across Western Canada. The position requires the ability to travel regularly across Western Canada to various project sites.

What do we value?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications or technical training in heavy equipment operations, maintenance, or management.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the road construction and/or heavy equipment industry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiating skills to secure the best deals for the best value.
  • Experience with budget planning.
  • Ability to travel.
