Job Overview:
The Environmental Advisor will be responsible for implementing the Prime Contractor’s environmental management program for marine-based scopes of work and ensuring subcontractor compliance with applicable management plans and regulatory requirements. The role involves liaising with subcontractor environment and construction teams, developing and implementing environmental mitigation measures, and coordinating environmental monitoring resources. This is a site-based position on a 14/7 rotation, with periodic night shift requirements to support site operations.
Base Salary Range: $105,000 – $121,500 (This range is for base salary only. McDermott offers a competitive total rewards package.)
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, or Earth Sciences.
- Possession of a professional designation in British Columbia (PAg, RPBio, CPESC, etc.) or eligibility to obtain one is an asset.
- 3-5 years of experience on major projects, including field experience implementing environmental management programs and managing subcontractors during construction.
- Experience with marine construction, pile installation, or marine mammal monitoring is an asset.
- Experience conducting environmental monitoring activities, inspections, assessments, and adaptively managing changing conditions with strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental regulations.
- Effective communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental inspections, assessments, and audits to verify subcontractor compliance with project permits, approvals, and environmental requirements.
- Support the development, review, and approval of Environmental Work Plans (EWPs) and Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs).
- Collaborate with prime contractor and subcontractor construction teams to assist with work planning, ensuring environmental and regulatory requirements are incorporated.
- Lead or participate in investigations of environmental incidents and regulatory non-compliances to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Participate in environmental site walkthroughs with management or subcontractor environment teams.
- Participate in regular meetings with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Review subcontractor environmental monitoring data for quality assurance and accuracy.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and review weekly and monthly environmental monitoring reports.
- Support the implementation of the environmental management system to meet corporate, legislative, and client standards, including compliance with ISO 14001.
