Environmental Scientist / Project Specialist – Reclamation, Remediation & Contaminated Sites

POSITION SUMMARY
Environmental Scientists / Project Specialists are responsible for executing projects that meet or exceed company financial targets, on time and within budget. Project Coordinators also handle:
- Managing client relationships, ensuring projects meet or exceed key performance indicators
- Overseeing on-site project resources, both human and capital
- Ensuring projects comply with company Health and Safety Policies and Programs
RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Duties :
- Undertake Field Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including Phase 1 and Phase 2 ESAs, reclamation, and remediation for contaminated site projects within the oil sands sectors in Alberta
- Conduct environmental investigations, assessments, and analysis in the field
- Perform field activities related to Environmental Site Assessments and the Excess Soil Regulation
- Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples, and track soil movements
- Participate in remedial excavations and oversee abatement and remediation processes
- Analyze collected data, produce tables, figures, and technical reports
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety procedures and guidelines
- Collaborate with team members in both field and office environments to meet project goals
- Travel to project sites, which may require overnight stays and working outside regular hours as needed
Project Coordination :
- Coordinate with the Senior Project Manager to ensure effective project execution
- Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and client contracts
- Handle project documentation, including billing, purchase orders, and safety documentation
- Ensure all projects meet safety standards and exceed health and safety regulations
- Manage project files and change orders
- Lead project meetings and communications
Qualifications / Experience :
- Minimum 4-6 years of field experience with Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments
- Experience with groundwater monitoring, risk assessment, soil remediation, and reclamation
- Experience with drilling techniques, sampling, and well installation
- 1-2 years of environmental project coordination experience on contaminated sites
- Degree in Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geoscience, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- Professional registration with AIA, ASPB, APEGA, ASET, ACPA, or AAFMP in good standing
- Proficiency in MS Office, excellent communication skills, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
