Working as an Environmental Scientist, Project Manager in the Brownfield & Assessment Service Group providing environmental site assessment (ESA), remediation and re-development services for clients throughout Canada. This position focuses on the execution of excellent project management services and contributes to the mentorship and development of junior staff. The incumbent will build on MEMS experienced and technically strong teams to successfully execute low complexity to moderately complex work plans. This incumbent can manage multiple work scopes or projects in alignment with MEMS’ overall corporate strategy. This position is full time and requires a combination of office and field work.

Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of this position are identified below, but other duties may evolve as required.
Client Project Management
- Manage projects of low to medium complexity including sub-consultants and regulatory requirements in accordance with MEMS project management requirements;
- Apply appropriate project management techniques to execute all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract and ensuring quality of processes and deliverables; and
- Mentorship, supervision and promotion of career development of direct reports.
Technical Engagement
- Synthesize published and site specific information to present a concise interpretation of the site conditions and develop a conceptual site model to assist in understanding and communicating key site issues;
- Conducting site specific risk assessments and developing risk-based remedial objectives for contaminated sites of medium to high complexity with low to moderate senior input required.
- Primary authorship role in completion of risk assessment projects for complex sites;
- Primary development of appropriate risk-based site management strategies with limited input from senior risk assessment staff; and
- Progression to a reviewer role of project deliverables for low to moderately complex Sites.
Mentorship
- Identify competency gaps within the service group and communicate these effectively to the Service Group Director;
- Contribute to the execution of mentorship and competency training programs; and
- Provide direct mentorship of staff.
Field Work Execution
- In a primarily mentorship role for purposes of junior staff career development on moderately complex Sites, acting as a mentorship lead in the planning, organization and execution or oversight of field programs with a focus on sites requiring risk-based solutions.
- Working with contractors to implement ESA and remediation projects on complex Sites in consultation with MEMS senior project management staff and/or MEMS Executive.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
- A minimum of three (4) years’ experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required,
- Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and
- possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.
Other Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience with current provincial and federal legislation and familiarity with the environmental site assessment process.
- Understanding of the Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 guideline documents and/or equivalent documents from other jurisdictions as required.
- Understanding of the upstream and downstream oil & gas industry, and oil sands industry and commercial/industrial/brownfields environmental industry.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Be able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary setting.
- Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other team members and contractors.
- Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; and
- Excellent safety attitude.
Working Conditions:
- This individual should expect to spend approximately 30% of their work time at client sites; each individual trip lasting anywhere from 1 to 12 days. This individual may conduct assessments at industrial facilities and or greenfield sites in remote locations. In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment;
- office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as field work;
- prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens;
- manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals;
- sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required;
- ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night; and
- required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
