General Description
Working closely with CORE’s Environmental Leadership Team, the Environmental Project Lead plays a crucial role in the growth and success of the Environmental Division. The role involves meeting specific role expectations as outlined.
The Work
- Overview
- Managing or co-managing pipeline, municipal, solar, and public infrastructure projects.
- Preparing high-quality scientific and technical reports, including regulatory submissions such as:
- Water Act
- Public Lands Act
- Wildlife surveys (breeding bird, migration, amphibian, raptor, species at risk)
- Environmental Risk Assessments
- Biophysical Impact Assessments
- Wetlands Assessments
- Fish Habitat Assessments
- Hydrological Assessments
Assessing and managing potential risks and liabilities of projects.Supporting the development of internal processes like environmental/scoping tools, quick reference guides, checklists, and templates.Identifying opportunities to improve clients' regulatory compliance outcomes.Preparing project budgets, scopes of work, and detailed proposals.Spatial Data Interpretation / Analyzing
- Understanding land survey systems in Western Canada.
- Using GIS/mapping platforms to analyze and interpret datasets.
- Knowing which datasets to utilize for interpretation.
- Reading and understanding survey/engineering plans and their information.
Regulatory Requirements
- Knowing applicable directives and acts for projects.
- Interpreting regulatory documents and applying them to projects.
- Identifying non-compliance and suggesting mitigation options.
- Creating and submitting permits to regulators.
- Communicating with regulators as needed.
Technical Writing
- Producing clear, concise, and readable content with strong language skills.
- Using appropriate technical or plain language depending on context.
- Conducting research and interpreting technical information.
- Ensuring accuracy and clarity in reports and data.
- Proficiency with relevant software, including GIS tools.
- Reviewing reports for consistency and technical accuracy.
- Managing time effectively to meet deadlines across multiple projects.
Requirements
- Industry knowledge: Experience with BC and Alberta regulatory systems (e.g., BCER, MEP, AUC, AER, AEP).
- Technical skills: Deep understanding to contribute to projects and provide solutions.
- 10+ years of applicable environmental consulting experience.
- Professional designation: A recognized environmental professional designation or the ability to obtain one within 6 months (e.g., P. Eng, P. Bio.).
