Position Overview

WSP is seeking an experienced and visionary Environmental Project Director to lead multidisciplinary environmental projects across the Prairies. This leadership role is pivotal in delivering innovative, sustainable, and technically sound solutions for our clients in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and land development. You will oversee project execution, mentor high-performing teams, and drive strategic growth in environmental services.

What You Can Expect To Do Here

As an Environmental Project Director, you will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering technically sound, regulatory-compliant, and client-focused environmental solutions across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include :

  • Technical Oversight & Project Leadership
  • Provide technical direction and quality assurance for environmental projects, including Phase I and II ESAs, In-Stu and Ex-situ remedial options, and risk assessments.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle—from proposal development to execution—ensuring scope, budget, schedule, and quality targets are met.
  • Review and guide the preparation of regulatory submissions, technical reports, and closure plans.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, proactively managing relationships and ensuring expectations are exceeded.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and advocate for practical, science-based solutions.
  • Team Development & Mentorship
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff, fostering technical growth and leadership readiness.
  • Support field teams through site visits and hands-on guidance.
  • Champion a culture of safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Collaboration
  • Partner with the national RPM team and cross-functional WSP groups to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including RFP responses and client presentations.
  • Inspire alignment with WSP’s guiding principles and corporate vision.

What You’ll Bring To WSP

  • A post-secondary degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10–15 years of experience managing contaminated sites in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
  • Professional registration in one or more Prairie provinces (e.g., P.Ag., P.Chem., P.Eng., P.Geo., RPBio).
  • Proven expertise in fieldwork, technical reporting, and project management.
  • Deep knowledge of provincial contaminated sites regulations and closure requirements.
  • Strong mentoring skills and a passion for developing talent.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture.
