THE OPPORTUNITY

Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. (Triton) is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Monitors to join a well-established team of environmental professionals.

This role can be based in any of Triton's BC locations, such as Prince George, Vancouver, Kamloops, Vernon, Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat.

This position appeals to individuals passionate about working outdoors and thriving in a construction environment. Successful candidates will be part of a team building world-class projects that balance environmental protection with development.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Monitoring construction activities related to environmental protection, including implementation of environmental protection and management plans, and best practices.
  2. Advising construction personnel on decisions regarding construction commitments, government regulations, or unforeseen environmental conditions.
  3. Monitoring instream works such as stream isolations and diversions.
  4. Monitoring and collecting water quality samples in freshwater and marine environments.
  5. Monitoring erosion and sedimentation sites, providing mitigation recommendations.
  6. Supporting pre-construction bird nest surveys, fish and amphibian salvage activities.
  7. Conducting equipment inspections for fluid leaks and assisting with spill prevention and response.
  8. Preparing daily and weekly monitoring reports.
  9. Attending project and safety meetings.
  10. Promoting safety culture and complying with safety protocols.
  11. Liaising with clients, regulators, and contractors.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or certificate) in biology, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, or related field.
  • Previous experience as an environmental monitor in a construction setting.
  • Relevant professional designation (e.g., RPBio, P.Biol, P.Ag) is an asset.
  • Experience in fish salvage, water quality monitoring, bird sweeps, and wildlife surveys is an asset.
  • Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control measures.
  • Proficiency with field sampling equipment.
  • Ability to identify and address issues rapidly to ensure compliance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication with clients, contractors, regulators, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Physically fit to work outdoors in challenging conditions.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts and stay in camps or hotels.
  • Valid driver's license acceptable for driving in Canada.
