Job summary

CertainTeed Canada, a Saint-Gobain subsidiary, is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead BC mining operations and drive regulatory compliance across quarries and rail load-out facilities.

You will guide environmental strategy, manage monitoring and reporting, and engage with Indigenous communities while mentoring teams and external consultants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive environmental experience in mining or heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of BC regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring, reporting, and regulatory engagement.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Are you a strategic environmental leader passionate about sustainability, compliance, and operational excellence? Join CertainTeed Canada’s Mining team and play a critical role in driving environmental performance across our quarry and rail operations in British Columbia.

As Environmental Manager, you will lead the environmental strategy and execution for our BC mining operations, including two surface quarries and rail load-out facilities supporting our wallboard plants and external customers.

You will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous environmental improvement, while supporting safe and sustainable operations. This is a high-impact role interfacing with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and Indigenous communities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead all environmental programs across multiple quarry and rail sites
  • Mentor Environmental Technologists and manage external consultants
  • Drive a culture of environmental stewardship, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Align site practices with corporate sustainability objectives
Compliance & Permitting
  • Ensure compliance with BC mining and environmental regulations (Mines Act, EMA, permits)
  • Lead permitting activities, amendments, and renewals
  • Act as the key liaison with regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and review technical reports and regulatory submissions
Monitoring & Reporting
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs (water, air, effluent, biodiversity)
  • Maintain data integrity (QA/QC) and environmental records
  • Lead accurate and timely regulatory reporting
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders
  • Support engagement initiatives, site tours, and communications
  • Maintain the company’s social license to operate
Continuous Improvement & Operations Support
  • Integrate environmental considerations into mine planning and operations
  • Lead reclamation and closure planning initiatives
  • Identify risks and drive performance improvements (Lean / WCM tools)
  • Lead environmental incident response and corrective actions

What You Bring
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive environmental experience in mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of BC regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with environmental monitoring, reporting, and regulatory engagement
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills
Nice to Have
  • Experience with mine permitting and closure planning in BC
  • Familiarity with GIS or mapping tools

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates, the base pay for this position ranges from $90,500 to $125,000 per year. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate's competencies, including but not limited to education, experience, skills and qualifications as they relate to the role. Fully qualified and experienced candidates will typically align near the midpoint. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance measures.
