Reporting to the Mill Operations Superintendent, the Environmental Lead is accountable for the effective implementation and management of the Environmental Program at Rocanville

What you will do:

  • Manage all aspects of the Environmental Program (Air, Waste, Water, TMA, Groundwater, and Disposal Wells)
  • Accountable for the requirements of all government approval and permits to operate issued to the site, including environmental incident reporting
  • Prepare and submit monthly and annual reports to the applicable regulators
  • Supervise and direct the environmental team/coordinators
  • Communicate environmental goals/policies from Nutrien corporate and regulatory bodies to site management and operations teams. Implement as required
  • Manage and/or technically support environmental projects and remediation systems at the site, including environmental contractors and consultants. At times this will include field work as part of the role.
  • Be a member of the Emergency Operations Centre with a focus on directing environmental emergency response
  • Management of the Asbestos Program
  • Support other high potential opportunities to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions including, but not limited to, the development of R&D research pilots and evaluation of emerging technologies
  • Serve as a subject matter expert with respect to environmental issues

What you will bring:

  • Engineering, Science or Environmental related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional designation in the relevant field is an asset
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in environmental work, or similar field, with a knowledge of industrial plant site settings
  • Knowledge about relevant regulatory legislation, directives,and guidelines.
  • Strong safety commitment and leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions (at times based on limited data within a tight time frame)
  • Relate with external agencies and other companies in a professional manner while representing Nutrien interests
  • Ability to work with limited supervision in an office and field environment
  • Strong aptitude for Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Power BI, SharePoint) or equivalent software
