Job description

GFL Environmental is looking for a Laboratory Technician to support our Commercial lines of business out of our Bowmanville site.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical assistance to Customers via site visits, sampling and assisting with the classification of waste materials
2. Perform general laboratory and housekeeping duties including report analysis results and coordination with production personnel
3. Assist with discrepancies of incoming and outgoing materials
4. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and proper manner in accordance to GFL Environmental Inc. transportation standard operating procedures, and government regulations
5. Perform lab packing and de-packing duties
6. Complete all necessary paperwork to complete job including acquiring signatures as required
7. Manage and maintain various data management systems
8. Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis
9. Perform routine sample preparation and analyses employing ICP, GC, Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter and other instrumentation
10. Report analysis results and coordinate with production personnel
11. Maintain accurate analysis, maintenance, and production records
12. Assist other facility operators as needed
13. Complete Certificates of Disposal and Summaries of Analysis as required
14. Review analytical reports and ensure that outgoing materials meet disposal site parameters
15. Assemble and disassemble lab packs
16. Bulking / blending of small quantity waste chemicals
17. Assist with the coding and shipments of Lab-Pack materials
18. Provide assistance in Emergency Spill Response (ER)

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

1. Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician or Technologist of related Diploma
2. Previous lab, sales and industry experience is an asset
3. Competent computer skills (MS Windows and Office)
4. Must be safety conscious and detail oriented
5. Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision
6. Willing to work overtime and continental shift work
7. Knowledge of TDG, Reg. 347 and Ontario Health and Safety Act an asset
