Job summary

Onterris, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Professional to provide strategic leadership for planning, execution and delivery of environmental programs for major resource, infrastructure, energy and mining projects.

You will guide regulatory submissions, manage multidisciplinary teams, engage Indigenous communities and regulators, and align environmental work with project goals and long-term stewardship.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in environmental impact assessment, permitting, and regulatory affairs.
• Professional designation (P.Biol., P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Eng., RPP, EP, or equivalent) considered an asset.
• Proven leadership of major infrastructure, mining, energy, nuclear, or resource development projects.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams and complex stakeholder environments.
• Proven success obtaining environmental approvals and advancing projects through regulatory processes.

A Day in the Life As an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Professional, you will provide strategic leadership for the planning, execution, and successful delivery of environmental and impact assessment programs supporting major resource, infrastructure, energy, and mining projects. You will act as a senior advisor to executives, project directors, regulators, Indigenous communities, and clients. This role integrates environmental, engineering, social, regulatory, and commercial considerations to achieve project approvals while reducing risk and creating long-term value. The EIA Professional leads multidisciplinary teams and oversees complex environmental assessment and permitting programs from project conception through construction, operation, closure, and reclamation. The position is responsible for developing regulatory strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, guiding technical studies, and ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, territorial, and Indigenous regulatory requirements. The compensation range for this role is $160,000 to $190,000 CAD, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

Environmental Impact Assessment Leadership

Lead the development and execution of environmental and impact assessment strategies for large-scale resource, mining, nuclear, energy, and infrastructure projects. Direct preparation and review of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), Impact Assessment Act submissions, and supporting technical documentation. Integrate environmental, engineering, operational, commercial, and social considerations into project planning and regulatory decision-making. Provide strategic guidance regarding project risks, regulatory pathways, approval requirements, and mitigation measures.

Regulatory Strategy and Permitting

Develop and implement permitting and regulatory approval strategies that support project schedules and business objectives. Act as senior liaison with federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal regulators. Lead regulatory submissions, permit applications, licensing activities, and compliance programs. Support meaningful engagement with Indigenous Nations, communities, government agencies, industry associations, and external stakeholders.

Indigenous, Government and Stakeholder Relations

Contribute to relationship-building initiatives that incorporate Indigenous knowledge, rights, interests, and participation in project development. Facilitate resolution of environmental, regulatory, and permitting issues through collaborative engagement approaches. Represent organizations at public forums, industry associations, regulatory hearings, and executive stakeholder meetings.

Technical and Project Leadership

Lead multidisciplinary teams of environmental scientists, engineers, hydrogeologists, biologists, social specialists, and technical experts. Provide technical oversight of environmental baseline studies, effects assessments, monitoring programs, mitigation planning, and closure strategies. Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance, risk management, and project delivery processes.

Business and Executive Advisory

Serve as a trusted advisor to executives and project sponsors on environmental strategy, risk, policy, and project approvals. Drive business development, proposal preparation, client relationship management, and strategic growth initiatives. Manage project budgets, resource planning, staffing, forecasting, and financial performance. Mentor emerging professionals and strengthen organizational capability in environmental assessment and sustainability.

Mine Closure and Environmental Stewardship

Lead development of mine closure, reclamation, and long-term stewardship strategies. Prepare closure plans, liability assessments, and cost estimates to support regulatory and financial planning. Advance environmental stewardship practices that reduce long-term environmental and financial liabilities. Promote sustainable development principles throughout the project lifecycle.

Your Expertise and Skills

• Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Toxicology, Natural Resources, or related discipline preferred.
