Job summary

Onterris, Inc. is seeking a Water Resource Engineer in our Edmonton office to support multiple projects involving hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, field investigations, and regulatory applications.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental/Water Resources and at least 3 years in hydrotechnical engineering, with a strong hydraulics/hydrology background and familiarity with regulators and clients. Alberta P.Eng eligibility is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources.
  • 3+ years of hydrotechnical or water resources engineering experience.
  • Strong foundation in hydraulics and hydrology.
  • Experience with regulators, clients, contractors, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Registration as a P.Eng. or eligible in Alberta or another Canadian province.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with no restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hydraulic and hydrologic models for flood studies, river engineering, and water management projects.
  • Complete flood, erosion, scour, and other hydrotechnical assessments.
  • Design and assess river engineering works and watercourse crossings.
  • Support regulatory approvals and permitting, and in-stream construction planning.
  • Conduct field investigations and site assessments.
  • Provide construction support and monitoring.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, clients, regulators and contractors.
  • Support and mentor junior team members.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and regulatory applications.

A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life As an Water Resource Engineer, in our Edmonton office you’ll be responsible for assisting multiple projects where you will have increasing interaction with our multi-disciplinary staff, regulatory agencies and clients. You will be part of a strong team of committed professionals.

The compensation range for this role is $31.00 to $55.00/hr, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location

  • Developing and applying hydraulic and hydrologic models for flood studies, river engineering, and water management projects.
  • Completing flood, erosion, scour, and other hydrotechnical assessments.
  • Designing and assessing river engineering works and watercourse crossings.
  • Supporting regulatory approvals, permitting, and instream construction planning.
  • Conducting field investigations and site assessments.
  • Providing construction support and monitoring.
  • Managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Working with engineers, scientists, environmental specialists, clients, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members.
  • Preparing technical reports, specifications, and regulatory applications

Field work varies by project and may account for approximately 5 to 30% of your time. You will keep safety central to planning and design.

Your Expertise and Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources.
  • 3+ years of experience in hydrotechnical or water resources engineering.
  • A strong foundation in hydraulics and hydrology
  • An understanding of erosion, scour, flood hazards, and river processes.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS Initiative, sound judgement, and a desire to take increasing ownership of technical work, project delivery, and client relationships.
  • Practical field and construction experience, or a willingness to develop these skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Experience working with regulators, clients, contractors, or multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Registration as a P.Eng., or eligibility for registration within approximately one year, in Alberta or another Canadian province.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions
