Job description

Clean Harbors in Delta, BC is seeking a Clean Pack Chemist to join their safety conscious team! This role will be primarily responsible for assisting with daily lab packs and household hazardous waste (HHW) collections at customer facilities. Additional responsibilities include handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting hazardous waste products. All lab pack projects are required to be performed in compliance with Federal / Provincial / Local regulations and our company H&S policies and procedures.

  • This is a field based, customer-facing position that requires working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. This is not a laboratory-based Chemist role.

Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Prepare computer generated packing lists, labels and manifests.
  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.
  • Inspect storage area and drums for leaks or spills.
  • Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.
  • Collects, segregates, and properly packages waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.
  • Responsible for final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with regulations and company policies.
  • Conducts projects / jobs according to site specific provincial, federal and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer specific disposal restrictions / special packaging requirements.
  • Sample and prole of new waste streams or any waste needing analytical testing.
  • Ensures drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance with our company’s policies and procedure.
  • Follow provincial, federal and local compliance regulations and rules.
  • Safely operate vehicles.
  • Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Full (non GDL) Class 5 Driver’s License is required, with a clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Commercial / Industrial chemical handling experience preferred.
  • Hazardous waste experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a labor-intensive position and working outside in all types of weather conditions.
  • Safety Tickets are preferred : TDG, WHMIS and First Aid.
  • Attention to detail, able to take and follow directions and multi-task.
  • Ability to work with Window based applications and interact with customers on a daily basis.
