Job description

Office Location: Fort St. John, BC

Pay Range: $25 to $30 per hour

Anticipated Start Date: August 2025

Candidate is expected to be able to work from our Fort St. John location and must have travel flexibility to conduct remote field / camp work.

The primary function of the Environmental Field Assistant / Driller Assistant is to ensure the safe and efficient execution of drilling investigations, while assisting the environmental team with task such as, field sampling (soil, GW and SW), documentation of site conditions and observations, and completion of daily field reports. The role works with the Environmental Lead Driller to support SynergyAspen's field team, environmental consultants, and our clients to complete all scopes of work in a professional and efficient manner. This position also includes significant fieldwork activities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to work independently and possess excellent troubleshooting and mechanical skills.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with investigation, remediation, reclamation, or natural sciences field activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and SynergyAspen’s preferred operating procedure.
  • Assisting in operating and maintaining SynergyAspen's drill rigs and all equipment (skid steers, trucks, tailers).
  • Assisting in setting up and operating drill rigs, auger equipment, and other in-situ testing equipment.
  • Assisting with the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments.
  • Install ground water monitoring wells.
  • Organization of required field documentation and equipment.
  • Ensures timely deliveries of samples or product, to client or labs as required.
  • Office work includes assisting in data entry, preparation of technical reports, and completing Daily Field Tickets.
  • Perform other shop functions as required.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Adhere to client specific and SynergyAspen’s Health and Safety policies.
  • Provide excellent levels of service to our internal and external clients.
  • Maintain billable targets as set by Supervisor.
  • Provide assistance to the Environmental Lead Driller and field team as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

What You Offer SynergyAspen

  • 2-year technical diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences.
  • Previous field experience is an asset.
  • 1+ years' drilling or screw-pile experience with a preference given to candidates with environmental or geotechnical specialty.
  • Possess clean driving record and ability to provide acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Having a valid Class 3 Drivers License is an asset.
  • Trailer endorsement ticket or willingness to acquire one.
  • Ability to work in camps for extended periods and potential remote locations in varied weather conditions, when required.
  • Must be physically capable of the role including lifting, kneeling, traversing remote landscapes, and other related requirements.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability, experience with small equipment repair is an asset.
  • Ability to secure, tow, load and unload a trailer with GVW up to 30,000 pounds.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
