What you will be doing
- Develop, manage, and direct all aspects of the project’s environmental programs and activities.
- Review environmental requirements and constraints in the project construction agreement. Ensure that environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the project agreement.
- Act as the lead authorizing signatory of the environmental assessment/environmental planning component of the project.
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant governmental authorities.
- Oversee the acquisition of environmental permits, approvals, and exemptions.
- Prepare and review environmental assessment documentation.
- Ensure compliance with the corporate environmental requirements and federal, provincial, and local regulations and standards.
- Work closely with the project director, project managers, superintendents, and other project staff to identify and help mitigate environmental issues prior to work starting.
- Act as a point of contact for the project’s environmental matters.
- Oversee and direct the preparation and submission of plans, reports, documents, and other required information to project executives, clients, or government authorities.
- Set standards for subcontractors' environmental compliance and oversee subcontractors' work and performance.
- Train, supervise, and manage members of the project’s environmental team.
- Perform other duties as required.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree with specialization in environmental planning, biology, environmental science, planning, or another related discipline.
- PEng. or P.Geo designation will be considered an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in a similar position on large infrastructure/transportation projects.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario).
- Knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Proficient with Office 365.
- Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
- Strong mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to handle competing priorities.
