Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
  • 2–7 years of relevant environmental experience, preferably in construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting requirements at municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring tools and data analysis.

Job description
What you will do
  • Develop, implement, and oversee environmental plans (e.g., Environmental Protection Plans, Erosion Control Plans, Waste Management Plans).
  • Conduct site inspections and monitor environmental compliance during high-risk and routine construction activities.
  • Perform sampling and environmental monitoring (e.g., water quality, turbidity, pH) including marine-specific monitoring such as hydrophone use and marine mammal observation.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve potential or actual environmental non-compliance or incidents.
  • Liaise with internal teams, consultants, clients, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to environmental legislation, permits, and best practices.
  • Track, document, and report on environmental performance indicators including spills, waste management, and non-conformities.
  • Support project teams in achieving LEED, Envision, and other sustainability certifications.
  • Verify environmental compliance of subcontractors and assist in the regulatory reporting process.
  • Maintain accurate project records including field notes, measurements, checklists, and photographic documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings, debriefings, and contribute to environmental awareness training.
This role could be for you if you have
  • Bachelor’s degree (or diploma) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
  • 2–7 years of relevant environmental experience, preferably in construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting requirements at municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring tools and data analysis (e.g., water quality sampling, sediment control).
  • Familiarity with certification programs like LEED and Envision.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional designation (e.g., RPBio, P.Ag., P.Eng.) or willingness to obtain is an asset.
  • Experience working on marine construction projects is considered an asset.
