Job summary

The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and monitor environmental data related to all disciplines such as surface water, groundwater, air, light, noise, SAR, and ML/ARD); organize and coordinate logistics for field programs in collaboration with external consultants.
  • Coordinate and ensure timely reporting of all required internal, corporate, and governmental reports.
  • Maintain databases and data entry in GIS system.
  • Coordinate and conduct audits and inspections as required.
  • Organize and carry out sampling schedules for all environmental programs including external audits.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of environmental field survey crews.
  • Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with Government sampling and monitoring criteria.
  • Implement and maintain environmental management and monitoring plans.
  • Oversee hazardous waste management and disposal to ensure compliance with site standards and legislation.

  • Verify QA/QC for external laboratories.
  • Provide environmental advice, recommendations, and act as consultants on various projects; provide / implement suggestions for environmental improvements.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with various environmental monitoring programs (e.g. ISW ECA, Air and Nosie ECA, PTTW, potable water, etc.).
  • Maintain spill response plans and spill report registry.
  • Supervise and assist in the containment and clean-up of environmental spills on site.
  • Maintain site WHMIS compliance and SDS database.
  • Assist in conducting industrial hygiene surveys for air, noise, and collecting samples for analysis.
  • Update policies and procedures as part of the Environmental Management System.
  • Participate in preparation of annual budget for environmental programs.

  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.

Qualification and Skill Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or biology, with a minimum of 2-3 years of technical experience in the environmental field in the mining industry.

  • Possess Valid Driver's license.
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and an understanding of Environmental legislation.
  • Technical knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.
  • Proficient in GIS software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather; proficient in the use of watercrafts, snow machines and UTV/ATVs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and extended hours to facilitate field baseline programs.

This position is an 8X6 rotation, and is located in Red Lake, Ontario.
