The Role:
This is a key position for an ambitious and proactive Environmental Compliance Officer, responsible for driving environmental performance and ensuring full compliance with EPA regulations and wider environmental legislation. Reporting to the HR & Compliance Manager, the role also includes supporting health and safety initiatives, but the primary focus is environmental compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee site-wide environmental compliance, ensuring alignment with EPA waste permits and all relevant legislation.
- Conduct internal audits, site inspections, and environmental sampling in preparation for regulatory inspections.
- Manage and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS), including SOPs and risk assessments.
- Submit environmental reports and returns, including quarterly and annual documentation to relevant authorities.
- Represent the organisation professionally in all interactions with regulatory bodies such as the EPA, HSA, and RSA.
- Act as the internal advisor on environmental matters, supporting process improvements and raising staff awareness.
- Develop and deliver staff training, inductions, and toolbox talks focused on environmental procedures and policies.
- Conduct routine health and safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Lead and document investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses.
The Person:
- Experience in environmental compliance, environmental science, waste management, or related regulatory fields.
- Strong understanding of Irish environmental legislation and EPA licensing requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO standards (particularly ISO 14001) is highly desirable.
- Clear, confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with regulators and internal stakeholders.
- Organised and detail-oriented, with a calm and solutions-focused approach.
- Proactive and practical mindset, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and compliance.
The Offer:
- Full-time, permanent position based in Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
- Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 depending on experience.
