Job summary

Metlakatla Stewardship Society in Prince Rupert seeks a temporary (3-month) full-time Environmental Assessment Office and Field Assistant to support data collection, referrals tracking, meeting minutes, and environmental fieldwork.

You will help prepare environmental assessment reports, draft required regulatory documents, maintain project records, perform basic GIS tasks, and assist with stakeholder communications. The role may extend beyond three months depending on funding.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Biology/Ecology or related field.
• Experience reviewing referral packages and working within regulatory processes.
• Familiarity with provincial and federal acts, regulations and consultation requirements for land and marine resources; sensitivity to First Nations data.
• Strong interpersonal communication to build relationships with community members, colleagues, and government officials.
• Valid BC driver’s license with a clean abstract.
• Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; positive team attitude.
• Commitment to an addiction-free lifestyle.

Responsibilities

• Assist with receiving, tracking, assessing and responding to referrals and project development applications.
• Maintain referrals-tracking software and ensure it functions correctly.
• Prepare environmental assessment reports by compiling and formatting data.
• Draft and submit required regulatory documentation.
• Coordinate interdepartmental communications on environmental projects and permitting reviews.
• Support preparation of communication materials for stakeholders.
• Perform basic GIS functions to support environmental permit reviews.
• Support presentations, maps, and visuals for stakeholders.
• Record field observations and site data accurately while in the field.
• Coordinate and participate in meetings; take minutes and prepare meeting documents.
• Support community engagement sessions related to project development.
• Coordinate EA team Community Newsletter submissions with Communications.
• Maintain organized project records and budgets tracking time spent on projects.
