Job description

Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety & Environment (the Director) the Environmental Analyst works closely with other members of the environmental division to administer NTPC’s Environmental Management System (EMS), regulatory, licencing, and overall environmental protection activities. In the course of their duties, the Environmental Analyst will coordinate external consultants, conduct environmental audits, coordinate fieldwork, supervise environmental projects and assist in other departmental functions including joint inspections, training presentations, safety reporting, environmental monitoring, developing management plans, public consultation, reporting, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Liaise with other NTPC divisions to inform employees of the policies and guidelines that support NTPC’s EMS and to monitor compliance.
  • Coordinate NTPC’s response and regulatory reporting to hazardous substance releases.
  • Conduct field inspections and audits of operating and storage sites either independently or in conjunction with the Health and Safety Coordinator.
  • Conduct internal and external stakeholder engagement through written correspondence, in-person meetings, presentations and public engagement sessions / hearings.
  • Complete applications for NTPC Water Licences and Land Use Permits by developing formal regulatory submissions and coordinating internal and external stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Implement NTPC Water Licences and Land Use Permits in accordance with legislation through development and implementation of associated management plans, internal compliance management and engagement with environmental regulators.
  • Procure environmental resources by developing detailed scopes of work for environmental projects and outlining services required for compliance with NTPC purchasing policies.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in an environmental or environmental engineering discipline, or related diploma.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in environmental assessments, remediation and / or environmental project management or other combination of equivalent experience.
  • Must possess above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a high level of organizational skills in order to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills including the ability to apply MS Word, Excel and environmental software applicable to the position.
  • Environmental sampling experience an asset.
  • Experience with database development and maintenance an asset.
  • Experience with environmental impacts of utility operations an asset.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check is required.

Salary for this position ranges from $52.18 / hr - $63.40 / hr, plus a location allowance of approximately $4,642 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. This position is located in Yellowknife, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
