JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team as an Environmental, Chemical & Safety Technician/Technologist in Timmins, ON.

Reporting to the Plant Programming Coordinator, this role provides technical expertise in chemical, environmental, and safety issues related to OPG facilities, including workplace hazards. The role involves interpreting environmental and health and safety legislation, chemical and waste management related to OPG operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide technical expertise and assist in implementing corporate and local programs related to Environment, Health and Safety, and Emergency Management.
  • Support environmental monitoring and sampling for programs such as Waste Management, TDG, HAZMAT, Designated Substances, Water/Air Quality, Contaminated Lands, and Environmental Compliance Approvals.
  • Provide health and safety expertise, including noise sampling and respirator fit testing.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and upload data accordingly.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records.
  • Update emergency response plans.
  • Send samples to external labs for analysis and interpret results.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of Highschool or equivalent, plus two years of study in a related field*.
  • Experience in industrial workplaces, power plants, or environmental field sampling is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with internal/external stakeholders and government agencies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote OPG sites under various weather conditions.

*Degree/diploma in Environmental Science is preferred.
