About the Organization

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the East coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC.

Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008.

Since that time the mill has grown to five production lines and a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of world‑class pulp per year.

Key to Harmac’s success is the employee ownership model. Our employees are very active participants in the running of the business and have 2 members that they elect to the company’s 6 seats on its Board of Directors. The future of Harmac Pacific Pulp is looking bright.

Through extensive capital investments, the organization has made significant improvements in productivity and reliability.

In addition, as of 2013, the installation has been completed of a 25 MW Green Energy turbogenerator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro.

Job Description

We are seeking energetic, skilled and motivated individuals to join our team at Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill. Under the direction of the Shift or Area Supervisors, you will support operations by cleaning and maintaining all areas of production. New employees are all trained at the entry level jobs in production and provide relief for the mill, with an opportunity for significant progression.

  • Shifts can vary from 10-hour or 12-hour and overtime, as required.

This is an opportunity to choose a career path that aligns with your abilities and longer‑term goals with an attractive compensation package under the Labour Agreement with PPWC Local 8.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shoveling chips and sawdust
  • Sweeping
  • Lifting/carrying various wood and metal debris
  • Grate cleaning
  • Air lancing and cleaning conveyor belts
  • Cleaning under all reclaim pit platforms
  • Forklift and other mobile equipment
  • Other duties, as required
Qualifications
  • Possess a High School Diploma.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Safety Conscious & Focused.
  • Able to work individually & as part of a team.
  • Adaptable/Flexible/Willing to learn.
  • Able to work varying shifts and days.
  • Physically fit.
  • Demonstrate the values of safety, teamwork, and accountability and work well with others.
  • Attention to detail, especially ensuring specific steps are followed to complete a task and have high standards towards quality control.
