About the role

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Magazine Keeper within our Orica Canada team focused on ensuring the efficient and effective operations in the Blackwater magazine area to dispatch and receive finished products, detonators, tubing, and raw materials in accordance with the national code for the transport of explosives by road and rail and established Safety and Quality standards.

This is an entry level role that will provide excellent training and exposure for future career growth within Orica.

Lodging is provided at Blackwater camp site.

Transportation will be provided to Blackwater from Prince George.

What you will be doing
  • Ensuring that the Distribution Safety schedule is met and adequate feedback is provided to Distribution Operators.
  • Manage machinery and equipment breakdowns to minimise business interruption
  • Ensure communication of “post goods issue” progress.
  • Liaising with Regional Distribution Officer to ensure documentation flows in a timely manner to meet scheduled requirements.
  • Manage explosives limits within the magazines as required by the Explosives Regulations
  • Ensure accuracy of operation of the magazine inventory
  • Ensure cost effective and timely delivery of product. Establish cost effective working relationships with distribution contractors. Deliver agreed level of service. Ensure magazines and inventories are compliant with regulatory requirements.
What you will bring
  • Sound knowledge of the Distribution Process.
  • A good understanding of the quality system.
  • Knowledge of SHES policy and regulations governing the National code for the transport of explosives by road.
  • Hazard / risk analysis skills
  • Basic knowledge of ergonomics and manual handling technique
  • Leadership experience would be an advantage, but not required.
  • Some exposure to SAP is advantageous, but not required.
  • Have completed or be willing to complete the Orica Magazine Keeper Training.
Physical requirements
  • Must be able to lift/carry 45-50 lbs. And push/pull 50-250 lbs.in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to perform frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Must be able to perform frequent reaching over the shoulder, waist level, and from the floor.
