Work environment

The Materiel Group serves DND and the CAF as a central service provider and functional authority for all defence materiel and equipment programs.

Education :

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Foreign credentials must be recognized by The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials.

Experience

EN-ENG-03 – Breadth and depth of experience normally acquired within 1 year of engineering work experience

  • obtained within the private or public sector related to the position being staffed.
  • Experience only includes time spent performing tasks as an engineer in an engineering role.
  • Only experience gained post-graduation is accepted.

Organizational Needs

As a result of workforce adjustment, affected indeterminate DND employees within the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE - UIC 2671) at 4 Wing Cold Lake or within the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS – UIC 7777) at Canadian Forces Base Suffield will be appointed or deployed to positions for which they are qualified ahead of other candidates.

  • There are no years of engineering experience required (after graduation) to apply for an ENG-02 position. This level is suited to new graduates, or to those who meet the education requirement and have never worked as an engineer.
  • The Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program (ODP) is an elite, fast-tracked, entry-level program. Trainees start at the ENG-02 group and level and upon successful completion of each phase of the ODP, trainees are promoted to the next level. Upon graduation, trainees are offered career placements at the ENG-04 working-level classification within the Materiel Group.

During the program, trainees are offered work placements and sent on field rotational assignments in which they are given real tasks in direct support of ongoing projects, materiel sustainment or acquisitions processes. They are expected to complete a wide variety of courses and practical tasks, and to attend specific on-the-job training events, all related to the Materiel Acquisition and Support (MA&S) process.

Right from the start, trainees are integrated into the workforce. They are set up for success on the way to a fulfilling career full of opportunities including, but not limited to, professional accreditation, project management certification or appointment, leadership roles, program management and more.
