Position Overview :

We are seeking a motivated Data Engineer to join our data team. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals with a passion for data-driven solutions and a keen interest in building energy efficiency.

This is a funded position. Only Canadian permanent residents and citizens with an education in STEM will be considered.

Educational Background :

• Minimum : BSc in Math, Stats, or Engineering
• Preferred : Graduate degree in Math, Stats or Engineering

Experience :

• Entry level - 0-2y
• 1 or 2 self-directed entrepreneurial or technical research projects (successful or failed). These may not be school assignments or senior projects.

Under direction of the Director of Data Science, the Data Engineer's key responsibilities include :

Data Transformation

• Clean, transform, and aggregate data from disparate sources.
• Ensure data is consistent, machine-readable, and ready for analysis.
• Maintain data pipelines and build out new API integrations & data models to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
• Implement of data models, schemas, and database structures

Build, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines and systems

• Implement process and automate systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available, including unit / integration tests, under supervision of senior team members
• Assist with configuration and management of data infrastructure components, including databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and distributed computing frameworks.

Dashboard Design and Development :

• Create interactive, visually appealing dashboards using tools like R Shiny, Power BI, or Tableau.
• Design dashboards that effectively communicate key performance indicators, metrics, and insights.
• Tailor dashboards to specific audiences and organizational goals.
• Implement appropriate data visualizations for various types of data.

Data Analysis :

• Perform data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assists in the resolution of data issues
• Conduct data analysis using the data stored in the data warehouse to derive actionable insights.

Required :

• Efficient in programming knowledge for data analysis such as Python and R
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Assets :

• Familiarity with modern cloud platforms (e.g. Azure)
• Understanding of modern database systems including but not limited to relational, document storage, columnar, Redis.
• Comprehension of Data Lake Medallion architecture.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
• Experience using visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R Shiny).
