E-Comm 9-1-1, a BC-based emergency communications provider, seeks an Enterprise Systems Technologist 1 for desktop-focused support. You will manage Citrix VDI, imaging, and endpoint security while administering Active Directory and cloud applications.

You’ll monitor systems, perform upgrades, and support critical CAD, RMS, and comms systems. The role emphasizes independent problem solving, scripting, and small project coordination within a 6-month temporary assignment.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in computer science or related discipline plus sound related experience.
  • ITIL Foundation v3 or later accreditation preferred.
  • Experience with Windows operating systems in an Active Directory environment.
  • Knowledge of other OS (e.g. Rocky Linux, Redhat) beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary desktop and endpoint support resource for server-side and desktop-side needs.
  • Administer and support the Citrix VDI environment, including imaging and deployment.
  • Maintain endpoint security standards (Microsoft Defender, BitLocker) per policies.
  • Manage user and group access in Active Directory per policies.
  • Support Microsoft 365, desktop and cloud applications for end users.
  • Install and support servers, workstations, and peripherals per performance criteria.
  • Monitor alerts, manage storage capacity, and assist in backups and recovery.
  • Troubleshoot incidents; escalate to senior resources when needed.
  • Develop and maintain system/shell scripts for automation.
  • Plan small projects like printer replacements and data migrations.
  • Suggest new hardware/software with approval for small procurements.

We are looking for an Enterprise Systems Technologist 1 (System Administrator) to join our Technology Services Team on a 6-month temporary assignment. Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Services, the Enterprise Systems Technologist 1 provides support to a variety of technology systems as well as critical business and public safety applications for E-Comm, its partners and clients.

This position is primarily focused on the desktop side of the environment. The successful candidate will act as the primary desktop support resource, managing Citrix VDI, desktop imaging, endpoint security, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and cloud applications, while working independently and taking ownership of issues with minimal direction.

The successful candidate will also be accountable for monitoring base system performance and investigating performance issues, installing system components, performing moves and software and hardware upgrades, responding to service requests, and working with the service desk and other technicians to troubleshoot and resolve service issues that impact availability. Experience with Citrix VDI and endpoint security tools will be especially advantageous in this position.

Key responsibilities in this role include:

  • Acting as the primary desktop and endpoint support resource, covering both server-side and desktop-side needs
  • Administering and supporting the Citrix VDI environment, including desktop imaging and deployment for workstations and virtual desktops
  • Maintaining endpoint security standards, including Microsoft Defender and BitLocker, in accordance with established policies
  • Administering user and group account access and rights in Active Directory in accordance with established policies
  • Supporting Microsoft 365, desktop applications and cloud applications for end users
  • Installing, maintaining and supporting the operation of servers, workstations and peripheral devices in accordance with base performance and availability criteria; assisting in enhancing service performance of critical CAD, RMS and communications systems and participating in maintaining systems security
  • Monitoring and responding to alerts triggered by various technology systems; monitoring and participating in management of network storage capacity and server virtualization and ensuring the successful completion of backup processes
  • Troubleshooting incidents and service performance issues; escalating to senior resources as appropriate and participating in resolving a broad variety of technical problems
  • Developing and maintaining system/shell scripts to automate routine tasks
  • Installing and configuring workstations and physical and virtual server environments
  • Planning and coordinating small projects, such as printer replacements, workstation software and hardware upgrades, evacuation site preparation, new server builds and upgrades, and data migrations
  • Developing and executing checklists and test plans, documenting processes and procedures and providing user training as required
  • Recommending new hardware and software related to the work and, upon approval, making small-scale procurements
MINIMUM QUALIFYING CRITERIA:
  • Completion of a degree or diploma program in computer science or a related discipline plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • ITIL Foundation v3 or later accreditation preferred
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience with Windows operating systems in an Active Directory (AD) environment
  • Knowledge of other Operating systems [e.g. Rocky Linux, Redhat, etc] will be beneficial
  • Knowledge of best practices in technology service management (ITSM; ITIL), IT security, and data centers
  • Experience with end-point deployments like desktop computers, laptops, cellphones, tablets, etc
  • Knowledge of centralized storage management and protocols (FC, NFS, CIFS, ISCSI)
  • Microsoft PowerShell and other scripting languages with emphasis in automation
  • Experience with ticketing systems and cloud applications [e.g. Service Now, Microsoft Intune, Jira, MDM
  • Experience with Citrix and Virtualization would be highly beneficial
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm. The minimum residency in Canada to qualify for this position, as established by our law enforcement partner agencies, is 5 years.

JOB DETAILS

  • Wage/Salary: PG 25| $47.64 to $56.19 hourly; $99,091.20 to $116,875.20 annually (2026 rates)

  • Selection Process: The successful candidate will be selected after completion of a background review stage, phone interview and a panel interview consisting of technical and behavioural based questions
  • Interview scores: The pass mark for each stage of the interview process (excluding the Background Review Stage) has been set at 60% for this competition. Candidates must obtain a score of 60% or higher in order to move to the next stage of the process
