This position will be primarily responsible for ownership and management of enterprise-risk governance activities (e.g., risk appetite, enterprise-wide risk reporting, policy governance) in addition to other key risks for the Canada Branch (e.g., Business Continuity, Strategic, Climate, and Reputation Risk), while ensuring compliance to the policies & procedures stipulated by Head-Office and / or Regulatory agencies. Other responsibilities include ownership and oversight of the New Product / Services and EUCC framework functions.

Role Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Canada Branch Risk Appetite Program including the annual review / update of the Risk Appetite Statement and associated management control metrics for recalibration, replacement and / or removal
  • Measure, monitor and report on risk appetite metrics providing analysis and planned remediation of breaches as required
  • Draft Integrated Risk Committee materials working with Risk Management leads (reviewing and editing submissions) for review / approval by the department head and CRO;
  • Organize and facilitate the Integrated Risk Committee meetings including performing the duties of its Secretary;
  • Prepare the end-to-end Risk Management submission for the quarterly ECC meetings including drafting of the CRO Report, consolidating the risk materials and seeking sign-off delivery to the Secretary of ECC the CRO Report, etc.

Top and Emerging Risks

  • Act as a SME for Business Continuity, Climate, Reputation and Strategic risk stripes for the Branch
  • Identify and assess emerging and potential strategic risks that could affect the bank’s performance in the short / medium / long-term
  • As enterprise-level risks emerge, assume a lead role from a risk perspective to establish monitoring and reporting at the Canada Branch Level (e.g., climate risk and other ESG risks) that align with head-office / regions and / or regulatory expectations
  • Review and analyze the current Risk Management policies in place to ensure consistency in content, structure and format
  • Engage in initiatives including those to ensure local regulatory expectations are met and requirements align with Head Office and / or Americas policies as required
  • Oversee the Canada Branch Risk Management’s Policies and Procedures including calendarizing the reviews to ensure timely updates and approvals
  • Act as lead representative for RMD Canada at Americas-level meetings (i.e., Risk Governance, Reputational Risk, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Front-line business groups, Compliance & Legal for introducing new policies or procedures in the branch and work with Regional and Global policy teams to establish review priorities and assess review findings.

Relationship Building :

  • Build strong relationships within the Canada Risk Management team, cross-train to gain understanding of other verticals within Risk and to be able to support the team as required
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships within Canada Branch (mainly First Line, Compliance, Audit) to support and deliver Enterprise Risk mandates (e.g., EUCC Program, Records Retention,
  • Acting as a Branch Liaison for the EUCC Program and provide end-to-end support

Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in MS Office and VBA.
  • Strong understanding of policy protocols and procedures and the ability to assess and apply them in practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate to translate and explain ideas to all levels within the Organization, verbally and in writing.

Experience & Abilities :

  • 10+ years with relevant experience in the financial industry including understanding of Financial statements, reporting, adjudication and Risk metrics.
  • Develop strong relationships across the Branch (first line, Compliance, Internal Audit, etc.) providing guidance, managing expectations and collaborating effectively.

Undergraduate Degree (e.g., B.A., Business Administration, Mathematics, Sciences)
