At Interac, we design and deliver products and solutions that give Canadians control over their money so they can get more out of life. But that's not all. Whether we're leading real-time money movement, driving innovative commerce solutions like open payments for transit systems, or making advancements in new areas like verification and open banking, we are playing a key role in shaping the future of the digital economy in Canada.

Want to make a lasting impact amongst a community of creative thinkers, problem solvers, technical gurus and high-performance application developers? We want to hear from you.

The Principal, Enterprise Architect—reporting to the Leader, Architecture—will be deployed to a key product team to support its objectives and guide it on a multi-year journey for technology transformation. Working directly with the product leadership and owners, the Architect will ensure the backlog includes what is necessary to meet enterprise objectives and help prioritize related work into release plans that both deliver business value and support technology transformation over time. We want YOU, because you have been directly involved in similar work in the past, and can draw on your experiences to act as a mentor to others within the architecture practice to help raise their game to deliver both business and enterprise value at the same time.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in designing and delivering cloud-native product solutions and migrations. Targeting major Cloud Service Providers such as AWS or Azure, you'll design product architectures that incorporate containerized microservices, event-driven patterns, and work closely with platform teams on the CI/CD pipelines. Your experience should include translating requirements into resilient architectures with high availability, implementing zero-trust security models for applications, and optimizing product performance while maintaining cost efficiency at scale.

With this kind of experience under your belt, you'll thrive in our approach to enterprise architecture. At Interac, we've moved beyond the traditional ivory tower model to a more practical, hands-on architecture practice. You'll join a team that blends engineering with design, shifting architecture left in the SDLC to reduce review cycles and provide agile product teams with solutions they can implement quickly while maintaining alignment with standards. If you're excited about participating in this modern architecture approach while delivering tangible product value that impacts millions of Canadians, we'd love to speak with you.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Partnering with product leadership and teams on backlog development, prioritization, and release planning across multiple agile squads to drive both product outcomes and architectural integrity.

  • Translating enterprise architecture requirements into product-level designs and implementation strategies that development teams can readily adopt.

  • Identifying and addressing technical debt through strategic remediation planning that balances immediate product needs with long-term architectural sustainability.

  • Conducting architecture reviews that lead to actionable improvements in security, reliability, performance, and cost optimization.

  • Leading within cross-functional working groups to identify opportunities for reusable patterns, shared capabilities, and platform standardization that benefit the entire product ecosystem.

  • Designing and delivering proof-of-concepts and reference implementations that demonstrate architectural patterns in practical, implementable ways.

  • Creating architectural documentation, decision records, and implementation guides that accelerate development while ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.

  • Providing strategic architectural guidance to executive stakeholders and product owners that enables confident decision-making.

  • Balancing governance with enablement to ensure architectural quality while maintaining product delivery momentum.

You bring:

  • Experience as a practiced Information Technology professional for more than 8 years.

  • At least 5 years of experience on teams delivering and designing software applications.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

  • Recent and in-depth experience building POCs, architecting, designing, prototyping, and testing technology products and/or platforms on cloud platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure and AWS) and on premise.

  • Experience working on online transaction processing solutions with very high availability and resilience expectations.

Interac requires employees to complete a background check that is completed by one of our service providers. We use this service to complete the following checks:

  • Canadian criminal record check;
  • Public safety verification;
  • Canadian ID cross-check;
  • 5-year employment verification;
  • Education verification; and
  • If applicable, Credit Inquiry and Social Media Check
