Job summary

Lumentum Canada is seeking an experienced Director of AI Engineering to build and lead a world-class AI team. This leadership role designs and delivers enterprise-grade AI applications that drive business value across Marketing, Finance, Legal, Enterprise Search, and R&D.

You will mentor engineers, establish best practices, scale AI capabilities across a globally distributed organization, and guide architecture, deployment, security, and governance with a focus on performance and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of professional software engineering experience with progression to senior/leadership roles.
• 3+ years of AI/ML systems experience in production environments (LLMs, generative AI, RAG).
• 3+ years of technical leadership experience mentoring engineering teams.
• Hands-on cloud proficiency (AWS/Azure/GCP) and modern deployment practices.
• Strong Python and related AI/ML languages.
• Experience working across globally distributed time zones.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow an AI engineering team with a culture of technical excellence.
• Design and oversee enterprise AI apps across multiple business functions.
• Establish technical standards, architecture patterns, and code review practices.
• Mentor engineers in AI/ML systems design, cloud infra, deployment, and operations.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and business stakeholders to translate requirements.
• Drive decisions on AI frameworks, cloud platforms, and infrastructure for cost, performance, and reliability.
• Build and maintain data pipelines, model serving, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
• Lead scaling strategy for AI with security, governance, and compliance considerations.
