Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, ON invites applications for an Enhanced Extern – Therapy within an interprofessional care model. The Enhanced Extern Program is a Ministry of Ontario funded program that enables hospitals to supplement existing health human resources. Enhanced extern – therapy are clinical learners hired as unregulated care providers. The enhanced extern – therapy will be immersed in our hospital setting, working within an interprofessional model of care under the direct and indirect supervision of regulated health care providers (e.g. Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Physiotherapist) in their assigned clinical area within the hospital. While enhanced extern - therapy are Holland Bloorview employees, they cannot replace therapy staff or be redeployed. The Regulated Health Professions Act, College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario direct the type of care they can provide based on the level of supervision needed. They may perform pre-identified Controlled Acts authorized to them within the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) of Ontario that are assigned or delegated to them under the supervision of a regulated health care provider who is authorized to perform them. Ultimately, this exciting program will provide the enhanced extern - therapy with the platform to develop important clinical skills while increasing their knowledge of our hospital community.
