English as an Additional Language Tutor, CALP (Casual)
The Opportunity

The Global Access Department at Keyano College is seeking to hire Casual CALP Tutors to assist learners in English Language Learning (ELL), CAEC studies, or Trades entrance exams starting in April 2025 with our Community Adult Learning Program (CALP). Tutoring sessions will be held in person at Keyano College Campus. Tutors will be assigned students by the Global Access Program Administrator, Funded Programs. Tutors and learners will then book mutually agreeable times to meet to work through their needed learning paths.

Tutors will be responsible for providing tutoring to adult learners on topics that learners need assistance with. Tutoring sessions will be planned around the learner’s schedule, with options for day, evening, or weekend sessions. The tutor provides one-on-one or small group focused attention structured around the subjects requested.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring sessions
  • Make effective use of resources such as textbooks, reference materials, computer searches, educational tools, manipulatives, and model kits
  • Use approaches appropriate to adult learning, linking with prior knowledge and relating material to educational and/or career goals
  • Model effective learning practices: elaboration, dual coding, spaced practice, interleaving, retrieval practice, and concrete examples
  • Teach essential study skills to help students learn the subject matter (learning strategy support)
  • Follow academic integrity as per Keyano protocols
  • Remain current with best practices for academic support
  • Maintain proficiency in course content
  • Use virtual platforms to reach students remotely when needed
Qualifications
  • Possess a bachelor's degree, preferably with at least 1 year of experience teaching in an adult education setting or strong content knowledge of English Language Learning (ELL), CAEC studies, or Trades entrance exams
  • Intermediate computer skills, including using online learning platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply principles of adult education
  • Ability to communicate complex abstract material clearly and effectively
  • Ability to facilitate a proactive, individualized learning approach that recognizes learning differences and backgrounds
  • Flexibility to adapt approaches to individual student needs
  • Experience with adult literacy learners
  • Sensitivity to different cultures and language backgrounds
  • Caring and culturally sensitive attitude
Compensation and Benefits

CUPE 1S3 $31.63 per hour
