The Engineering & Public Works Department is looking for a detail oriented, technically sound individual to act as a liaison between the Development Services and Engineering & Public Works departments.

The work includes reviewing and processing land development applications as they relate to engineering service requirements, and overseeing the implementation of those requirements in collaboration with planning staff, the Approving Officer, developers and their consulting engineers. Additionally, you will be providing assistance with all permit applications including soil permitting.

We are seeking an experienced technologist who has the ability to:

  • review and/or complete Drainage, Sanitary, and Water design calculations;
  • pay close attention to detail and be precise and accurate;
  • communicate ideas and solutions clearly and concisely orally and in writing; and
  • write accurate and grammatically correct technical reports for a non-technical audience.

Along with an aptitude for problem solving and innovation, you should enjoy taking a methodical approach to your work, analyzing data, finding innovative solutions to problems and working with computerized mapping, drafting, design software and related computer applications.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for an Engineering Technologist 1 will have a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or recognized academic equivalent, and a minimum of three years of experience in a municipal engineering or development planning environment.

The ideal candidate for an Engineering Technologist 2 will have a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or recognized academic equivalent, and a minimum of five years’ experience in a municipal engineering or development planning environment or recognized equivalent including experience coordinating tasks with external agencies.

Considerable knowledge in municipal engineering design principles, methods and techniques and applied mathematics along with knowledge and understanding of provincial legislation, municipal bylaws and policies relating to land use are necessary for success in this role.

The position will be filled at the Engineering Technologist 1 or 2 level, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
