Job summary

VIAVI Solutions Canada ULC in Ottawa is seeking an Engineering Technician to support production, QA and R&D by performing electrical tests on optical and electrical test equipment. You will set up test gear, run automated test systems, and help generate test reports.

• Perform electrical measurements of optical devices using laboratory tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
• Set up fiber optic cables and connectors to establish proper test configurations.
• Use computerized test systems to automatically test optical components and subassemblies.
• Utilize computer software programs to generate test reports and graphs.
• Calibrate test equipment to ensure accurate measurement results.
• Assist engineers in R&D activities by preparing experimental setups and data acquisition.
• Prepare samples and test hardware for experiments.
• Clean and maintain lab equipment and work areas.
• Bill of Materials creation; component creation for the component library.

Duties & Responsibilities: The Engineering Technician position provides engineering support to all departments including production, quality assurance and research & development for current products as well as new product introduction. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical tests on optical and electrical test equipment. This includes setting up test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, and other electronic measuring instruments. In addition, this individual will also have the opportunity to learn how to use automated test systems (ATE) which are used in our production facility to test optical components and sub-assemblies.

Job Posting Pay Range: 39,078 to 72,573 Exceptional qualifications, experience and location may impact salary.
