Description
Purpose of Role: The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of multidisciplined Engineers to ensure that the rolling stock, track & signals, and infrastructure meet or exceed performance standards. This is achieved through effective inspection, maintenance, and engineering processes. The Manager will create and lead the reliability and sustainability plan for Keolis Grand River’s Rolling Stock and Infrastructure maintenance, and serve as the principal contact between Keolis and manufacturers of Vehicles, components, and equipment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- University degree in Electromechanical Engineering (preferred) or Electrical Engineering, with eligibility to become a Chartered Engineer in Canada.
- Deep knowledge of rolling stock vehicles and Light Rail infrastructure systems, including mechanical, Civil, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, track, signalling, OCS, and Operation Technology.
- Understanding of the interfaces between Traction, Rolling Stock assets/systems, and other railway aspects.
- Leadership skills to mentor and motivate Engineers, fostering professional growth.
- Knowledge of process improvement methods (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.)
- Strong collaboration, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Organizational and management skills for leading change.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with decision-making capabilities in complex situations.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to the role.
Experience:
- At least 5 years working on Rolling Stock and railway infrastructure, preferably in light rail transit.
- Minimum 3 years collaborating with car builders or owners on warranty and modifications.
- At least 2 years leading Technicians or Engineers, preferably in transit.
- Experience in root cause analysis, especially for derailments.
- Shop floor experience with repair and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with software and information systems related to maintenance and project management.
Key Accountabilities
1. Subject matter expertise in maintenance and troubleshooting:
- Provide technical guidance to Maintenance Managers and staff, stay updated with industry trends, and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and contractual requirements.
- Review and interpret technical bulletins, facilitate communication with manufacturers and stakeholders, and represent Keolis in technical and commercial matters.
- Oversee inspections, maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting, analyzing malfunctions and safety issues to implement effective solutions.
- Coordinate technical documentation, training programs, and maintenance records.
- Collaborate with Procurement for material and service planning, and assist in budgeting and forecasting.
2. Standards and quality management:
- Develop and maintain standards for maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance.
- Analyze performance data to improve reliability, safety, and maintainability, and lead safety and reliability investigations.
- Foster relationships across teams and stakeholders to promote quality and safety culture.
- Design and implement audit plans, review work orders, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
