About the role

The Protection, Control and Telecommunications Engineering Division is responsible for BC Hydro’s Protection & Control systems and Telecommunication Networks, ensuring safe and reliable operation of BC Hydro’s electric system while meeting stakeholder requirements.

The division provides engineering studies, standards, design solutions, construction documentation, and oversight, along with technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and asset lifecycle management.

We are seeking an Engineering Team Lead for the SCADA Design – Transmission team within the P&C Design department. The Team Lead will oversee SCADA engineering design processes, project resourcing, and deliverables for projects affecting SCADA assets, managing a team of 8-12 engineers, technologists, and contractors, reporting to the P&C Design Department Manager at the Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage team performance, quality, and delivery objectives, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Provide leadership, support, and technical guidance, fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Offer technical expertise in SCADA systems design, including network architectures, communication protocols, and diagnostics.
  • Ensure safety practices are upheld and team members are trained accordingly.
  • Coordinate resources, assign projects, and oversee work quality.
  • Mentor team members and review technical work to enhance effectiveness.
  • Lead development and review of engineering standards related to SCADA assets.
  • Build relationships across teams and external partners to support project delivery.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably power or control & communications.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience, including 8 years in SCADA systems engineering.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Deep technical knowledge of utility SCADA systems and related protection/control systems.
  • Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.

Additional Information

Work primarily from the Edmonds office with travel within BC and possibly outside the province. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing is required.
