Job description

This is an interview position.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Advises, plans, develops, and designs District engineering/operational plans to optimize efficiencies in business objectives. Leverages operational knowledge of various facilities, their specific engineering processes, and operational systems. Collaborates with Managers to monitor adherence to plans, identify root causes of deficiencies, develop and implement corrective actions, and support compliance and training efforts within the District.

Essential Functions
  1. Acts as a change agent throughout the District to influence and steer management decisions, ensuring alignment and optimization of engineering and operational plans.
  2. Identifies facility inefficiencies through root cause analysis, conducting facility visits, and leveraging operational knowledge to implement improvements.
  3. Advises and facilitates team knowledge and optimal application of dock operational systems (such as Vision, Sortation Systems – ISS & ISSC), and addresses corrective actions.
  4. Creates Network Alignment Plans.
  5. Determines Capacity Planning to fully utilize facilities.
  6. Prepares Volume Projections for short-term, future, and long-range planning.
  7. Oversees District changes like spin-offs, expansions, and relocations.
  8. Forecasts labor and project staffing needs for current and future requirements.
  9. Evaluates Hub/Linehaul cut times to ensure they meet operational requirements.
  10. Develops Labor Standards to minimize labor hours as needed.
  11. Produces monthly operational plans focusing on resource requirements, especially Peak planning.
  12. Sets goals and budgets for productivity, service, and costs to convert inefficiencies into savings.
  13. Provides material handling project recommendations, including financial analyses, to justify facility expansions.
  14. Constructs contingency plans for potential abnormal events.
  15. Acts as a subject-matter expert on operational/system/technology processes and upgrades.
  16. Identifies gaps in adherence to SQI metrics related to scanning, pickup, delivery, loss, and damage.
  17. Trains management on operational processes and procedures.
  18. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math is required, or an equivalent of four (4) additional years of relevant experience plus minimum required experience with a high school diploma/GED or unrelated Bachelor's degree.

Minimum Experience

7+ years in industrial or relevant engineering roles, or district staff/Engineering Specialist experience, OR 2+ years at Sr Manager Level 2.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Working knowledge of Business Objects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills for training and informational sessions.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving ability using sound judgment and analysis.
  • Leadership skills to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%.
  • Knowledge of Material Handling, CAD, and Business Object preferred.
  • Cost justification analysis skills.
