The Role:

As a Joining Engineer, you will oversee and optimize various joining and sealing processes within the body and assembly manufacturing process. Your responsibilities include ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to corporate standards. You will directly supervise and lead a team of joining Inspectors, conduct regular job observations to validate performance, and ensure process adherence.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in process or metallurgical engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of manufacturing experience focused on joining and sealing operations with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Ability to work all shifts, including days, afternoons, midnights, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including application of 8D, Statistical Process Control, and DMAIC methodologies
  • Ability to read prints, AutoCAD (Teamcenter preferred), 3D modeling, and 3D printing
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Experience with TQM and Kaizen methods
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Experience with Visual Factory Management
  • Understanding of constraint management principles
  • Leadership experience and experience working in unionized environments

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervise quality checks of joints, including weld tear down, in-process joint validation, and adhesive bond evaluations.
  • Serve as the NDT Level 2 Coordinator and Trainer, ensuring procedures are followed correctly.
  • Ensure compliance with Ford Standards, including Control Plan, Joining Quality Plan, and Sealer Control Plan.
  • Conduct Periodic Job Observations or similar validation activities.
  • Review and analyze process and quality data daily.
  • Address health and safety concerns, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Support the Body Department, including dimensional control, quality concerns, and maintenance.
  • Lead initiatives to improve joint effectiveness, quality, and process efficiency.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings to review process performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage personnel resources, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Coordinate with production for containment and corrective actions to minimize impact.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to ensure a preventative maintenance schedule and corrective actions.
