Job summary

Chemelex in Canada is seeking an experienced Design Engineer/Field Engineer specializing in EHT to lead engineering execution across data center projects. You will coordinate project setup, manage work packages, and ensure compliance with CAD standards and project requirements.

The role requires 2–5 years in EHT-focused design, proficiency with AutoCAD, Navisworks, MS Office, and SAP, plus Alberta professional registration or active training.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or technology diploma in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.
  • 2–5 years as a Design Engineer or Field Engineer specializing in EHT.
  • Strong time management and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, MS Office and SAP is an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical and EHT design is an asset.
  • (Canada Only) Must be either formally registered, or in training, to be a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist in Alberta and know APEGA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering participation in project kick-off, status, and coordination meetings with Project Management, Engineering, and client representatives.
  • Coordinate project setup and engineering execution, including design information, work priorities, time coding, resource deployment, and production inventory.
  • Monitor progress against schedules, identify risks or issues impacting cost, schedule, quality, design integrity, safety, or construction, and propose solutions.
  • Coordinate flow of technical and project information among Engineering, Project Management, Project Engineering, clients, Procurement, and Construction.
  • Manage engineering documentation and change control, including RFIs and DCNs, and scope completion.
  • Assemble and release engineering work packages in line with schedules and priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with work processes, data management, CAD standards, and project requirements.
  • Perform quality reviews and audits of engineering deliverables for accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Designers, Procurement, Construction, and other stakeholders.
  • Document and communicate issues, escalate risks, and support timely resolution.
  • Identify software issues and coordinate bugs or enhancements with the software development team.
  • Coach and mentor Designers to support technical development and consistent execution on Data Center projects.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering participation in project kick-off, status, and coordination meetings with Project Management, Engineering, and client representatives.
  • Coordinate project setup and engineering execution, including project-specific design information, work priorities, time coding, resource deployment, and production inventory.
  • Monitor engineering and design progress against project schedules, proactively identifying risks or issues that could impact cost, schedule, quality, design integrity, safety, or construction, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Coordinate the flow of technical and project information between Engineering, Project Management, Project Engineering, clients, Procurement, and Construction to support effective project execution.
  • Manage engineering documentation and change control, including client documents, project deliverables, Requests for Information (RFIs), Design Change Notices (DCNs), working copies, and scope completion.
  • Assemble, prioritize, and release engineering work packages and deliverables in alignment with project schedules and priorities.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with established work processes, data management requirements, Enterprise and Project Design Guides, CAD standards, and project-specific requirements.
  • Perform quality reviews and audits of engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, optimization, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Designers, Procurement, Construction, and other project stakeholders, and contribute directly to design and engineering deliverables as required.
  • Document and communicate project, technical, and process-related issues, escalating risks and supporting timely resolution.
  • Identify software issues and improvement opportunities and coordinate bugs or enhancement requests with the Projects & Services Software Development team.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Designers, supporting technical development, knowledge sharing, and consistent execution across Data Center projects.
You have:
  • An engineering degree from an accredited university or a technology diploma from a recognized college in the Electrical or Mechanical disciplines is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Design Engineer or Field Engineer specializing in EHT is preferred.
  • Possess solid time management skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, MS Suites and SAP an asset
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and EHT design experience is an asset
  • (Canada Only) Must be either formally registered, or in training, to be a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist in the Province of Alberta and have specific knowledge of the Alberta Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act, APEGA Regulations, APEGA Code of Ethics, APEGA By-Laws, ASET Regulations, and APEGA Professional Technologists Regulations - particularly as they apply to the relevant application of members' stamps and Permit to Practice approvals on issued drawings and specifications.
