Job description

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Our transportation network serves millions daily, relying on a map that reflects the constantly changing real world. Our systems leverage insights from driving locations, sensor data, and user feedback to provide the best possible service. This empowers us to optimize routes, recommend ideal transport modes, ensure safe drop-off locations, and much more.

The Map Data team is looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to lead our Fleetview product. You will oversee vision and drive execution of our in-house data collection system, the tools that help us visualize map data, debug issues, and drive our Human-In-The-Loop platform, which powers map updates and machine learning curation. This role is crucial in ensuring we can help people get where they need to go smoothly and reliably.

Responsibilities
  • Set the technical vision and strategy for Data Collection and the Fleetview program.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and cross-functional partners to understand needs and requirements.
  • Work with your engineers and stakeholders to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short term and long term goals.
  • Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and efficient delivery.
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes.
  • Coach and guide the professional and technical development of your team members.
  • Manage partnership with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.
Experience
  • BS/MS or equivalent degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, ideally with experience in frontend tooling.
  • Strong proficiency in both backend (Python, Go, Java, or C++) and frontend (JavaScript, React.js) technologies, and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
  • Previous experience dealing with data pipelines, ETL, and geospatial databases (PostGIS, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Proven ability to contribute to technical planning and design discussions.
  • Extensive experience in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success in building motivated teams with a strong sense of ownership and driving projects to completion.
  • Experience in building and scaling products to meet evolving company needs.

Advantageous would be:

  • Experience in geo-visualization, GIS tools, mapping infrastructure, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with front-end mapping libraries (Mapbox, Leaflet, Cesium, etc.)
Benefits:
  • Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • Child care and pet benefits
  • Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account
  • RRSP plan to help save for your future
  • In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take off as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service
  • Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Subsidized commuter benefits
