We are hiring an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage. Our goal is to make distributed storage easy to install, manage, and use, from large data centers to edge sites, helping teams store data safely, cheaply, and simply.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, you need to be technically strong, lead an effective team, and develop your colleagues. Your responsibilities include leading, challenging, and developing engineers, influencing culture, facilitating technical delivery, and ensuring sound software architecture and quality practices.

What you'll do

1. Lead a team building a Ceph-focused storage solution
2. Build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers
3. Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
4. Contribute directly to your team's goals demonstrating sound engineering principles
5. Set schedules and expectations, and improve processes
6. Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders
7. Promote modern, agile development practices
8. Maintain a culture of quality and engineering excellence
9. Foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
10. Participate in leadership team activities and collaborate organization-wide
11. Work remotely with up to 20% travel for events

Who you are

1. Have a software engineering background, preferably with Python and C++
2. Experience operating scale-out storage clusters on Linux, preferably with Ceph
3. Passionate about new technologies and developing people
4. Interested in building products that improve software and infrastructure operations
5. Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
6. Experienced in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
7. Have worked in an agile environment
