Job summary

Instacart is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Catalog Enrichment team, shaping AI-native platforms and pipelines for tens of millions of products across 100,000+ retailers. You will guide architecture, ML interfaces, and governance while partnering with ML, product, and operations to drive impact.

You’ll mentor engineers, own the data layer and policy controls, and push for autonomous, human-augmented workflows in a fast-growing, remote-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in people leadership.
• Experience building/operating production data or ML platforms (batch and streaming).
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, data pipelines, and orchestration.
• Experience owning data quality, coverage, or compliance commitments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow engineers who build the platform, pipelines, and interfaces for catalog enrichment.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap balancing platform investments with reliability and developer experience.
• Build and operate an AI-native enrichment platform blending LLMs, ML, rules, and human review.
• Drive autonomous pipeline construction where plain-language goals yield configured workflows.
• Own the ML-facing catalog data layer and policy controls for model inputs and customer uses.
• Partner across ML, search, ads, commerce, and retailers to streamline data flows end-to-end.
• Advocate for clear controls for source prioritization, rights, licensing, and governance.
• Boost developer productivity with AI-assisted testing, tooling, and on-call automation; meet SLAs.
• Contribute to architecture, design reviews, and code reviews in new areas.
