Job summary

The University of Waterloo invites applications for a temporary position to support First Year Engineering. The role involves tutoring, marking exams, and managing First-Year Tutors across labs and tutorials.

You will hire, mentor, and schedule teaching assistants, and oversee operations in the Multimedia and WEEF Labs. Responsibilities include organizing help sessions, proctoring exams, and training students in lab equipment while collaborating with engineering faculty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Experience in teaching or engineering environment is an asset.
  • Supervisory experience in a technical environment is preferred.
  • Strong background in programming, electric circuits, and chemistry.
  • Excellent knowledge of algebra, calculus, electromagnetics and physics for first-year engineering.
  • Exceptional ability to tutor and instruct students in first-year engineering courses.
  • Advanced communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in academic settings.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor first year students in labs, tutorials and one-on-one sessions.
  • Mark exams and assignments; develop marking schemes.
  • Hire, manage, schedule and evaluate teaching assistants.
  • Mentor First-Year Tutors and staff.
